INFP procrastination

Post by BabyDragon » Wed Jan 05, 2011 4:52 pm

Named like that only for the search engines to find this topic better. But ofcourse you can talk about your procrastination when I'm done.

I'm a procrastinating ENTJ, yeah it happens to everybody. :(

I have so much stuff to do with my web projects but I'm chatting, surfing, reading Wikipedia, reading forums instead of porting this forum to MyBB or promoting some of my websites or getting new members to this empty forum :(

How do you get rid of procrastination? It's killing me.

Are there any procrastinators among you? I assume there are a lot?

THE GODS OF SEO FROWN UPON THEE AND THY EXPLOITS

Just kidding.

But yeah, hear hear. I've got like 50 books I have to finish, a story to start [which I have been delaying by means of the clever little trick called RESEARCH], a video project to continue, some web designs to make, and a lot of stuff.

Most of my procrastination is based on fear. I'm afraid that if I don't research every detail, my stories will suck. That if I don't do enough of X, project Y will suck, and everyone will laugh, and I will decant my soul in shitty poetry and vein cutting* D:

*just kidding. I don't cut, nor write shitty poetry.

I don't think one ever does get rid of it. It's the herpes of bad habits.

The best way to cope is to take on many, many, many projects simultaneously AND to try one's best not to multi-task. Procrastinators prioritize in reverse (most important stuff at the bottom of a mental to do list). By having so many things to do, you end up doing a lot- just not everything you'd like.

What really kills me is having the variety of things to learn, do and play with severely limited. I end up doing nothing, becoming depressed and using said depression as an excuse not to start new things/ get out of my rut.

I wish I had an ESTJ pushing me to do work like a slave.

Of course I value my internal processing above all, loving to spend long periods "musing" and "thinking" and all manner of humanny stuff...and of course, I resist having to break away from that in order to delve in worldly concerns. It just goes against the grain...and so I procrastinate. It is a natural byproduct of me. The world, of course, has lit the subject with the glare of disapproval. But then again, I feel the world (at least the American world) casts its disapproving glow onto most of what comes natural to me. I procrastinate with some measure of rebelliousness...

First of all i just got here and you guys seem welcoming enough, personal and open which i dig in people.
Procrastination as mentioned in your answers seems to me like a regular bad habbit. I watch people and this kind of behaviour isn't unique-maybe the opposite. As much as those ESTJ's seem straight and logic, when slightest emotion mixed in the deal "they" search for any route-excuse out.

But how would you call it when man postpones even the pleasant deeds? While feeling sort of self-distraction mixed with feeling of strong control over life. Though I know in the end it only brings confusion to others.

Tom.

Oh, and the reason I procrastinate is because I'd much rather spend my time thinking, dreaming, and living away from earth. Ahh, the joys of being a dreamer INFP...

Yeah, I procrastinate ALL the time. I learn so many interesting things when I procrastinate because I'll read new articles and find out all kinds of interesting things. In fact, I like having work to do so that I can procrastinate on it.... :/ Of course, this is bad for my work because it never gets done.
