INFP fears (phobias)

Post by BabyDragon » Fri Oct 29, 2010 6:51 am

Are there an specific phobias that would haunt INFPs?

Do you have a phobia, and what is your biggest fear?

I have a fear of heights but that's a common one.

When I was a kid I was afraid of spiders. I still am, if they're big. :D

I would imagine phobias such as rejection and alone might be common in INFP's?

My biggest phobia would be being locked in a dark confined space. I hate insects too (especially if they are fast or if they fly).

The closest thing I have to a phobia is mild social anxiety, aka "shyness". This seems common enough in INFPs, although certainly not all INFPs are shy.

My Phobias

Post by Aqualung » Tue Nov 02, 2010 1:57 am

The thought of dancing or singing in public :o frightens me more than jumping out of an airplane & I'd never jump out of an airplane. Not sure why. I've seen shy people do it many times. (sing or dance in public) Performing in general. Since 1993 only one person has seen me play my guitar, my wife & that's how I like it. I guess it's too personal to reveal to crowds. 3 is a crowd for me.

I hope you don't mind but I've moved your post to this thread cause there's no need for another one.

Dancing in public frightens me too because I can't dance so I'm bound to make a fool out my self. Dancing with a woman is OK though.

I can totally handle dancing in public. (But I try not to sing, as a general courtesy to all of those in earshot.)

And spiders/cockroaches offer a certain aversion. So does blood, sometimes - I used to be really bad about this one, but hopefully I'm growing out of it a bit.

My biggest fear....would be that I didn't do anything with my life. I spend a lot of time reflecting back and thinking "ok, why did I spend so much of my life preparing for X? Will this help me become a better person? Am I becoming a balanced, well-adjusted adult? Is what I'm doing all in vain?!" and it scares the (-insert bad word here-) out of me when I can't answer these questions.

I'm not sure that's a phobia, per se, but I think perhaps it ought to be. Frankly, some people might look at that and say "well, that's ambition. You're ambitious!" And maybe they're right, but...I feel like lately I'm being too ambitious, and I haven't much to show for it yet. Other nations around the world stress the importance of work, but they don't work in the self-importance of stress. They take vacations, and enjoy them too.

That's all I want. To be able to take a guilt-free vacation one day.

That's one of my worst fears too.

It's unusual to see such an ambitious INFP. From what I've read on forums I didn't get a vibe that INFPs are too ambitious. I might be wrong.

^Yeah, no - I think you're right. Usually we're pretty mellow...laid-back. Shy. Easy-going. All in that sort of vein, I think.

I don't know. I've always grown up on an island, or in some sort of tropical setting, so I always just figured it was the "island mentality", lol, but maybe it's not. I've always kind of dealt with this two-sidedness of being really relaxed in social circles, but really gung-ho (in a non-combative way) when it comes to school/careerwork.

Unfortunately, when you can answer really random questions in class like "what is a metaphor" and "what is symbiosis", but always take the back seat in social situations, you can come across as snobbish sometimes, which really sucks. One of the downfalls of having your head stuck in the clouds, I suppose.

What're some of your other fears, Admin?

I think it's commendable to have an INFP with drive and ambition. We have too many ESTJs in authority positions sucking the fun out of life.

Fear of rejection has been haunting me for years. It's the only fear I can't rationalize away.

Being alone, hurting someone, not being understood/accepted, and being rejected.

Well I can consider social anxiety a phobia :/ .
And I hate insects, especially spiders. They just give me the creeps. And make me want to jump out of my seat. I once woke up and found a dead fly in my mouth. I threw up.

Every time I remember that I get goosebumps :(

Wow, I had to look all those up. Except the long one (surprisingly I know that one). :D

A frightened creature you are. Have you tried seeing a psychologist about it?
