Making fire.

Here's how I start my woodstove:

The ingredients are...
A toilet roll tube (optional :) )
Scraps of fir kindling - you get lots of these as an accidental by-product of splitting fir rounds.
Cedar kindling - purpose split from split rounds.
Alder starter wood - alder is a soft hardwood, burns readily, splits easily, and I have masses of it just lying around.
A metal tube - a toilet part (optional - unused as a toilet part :) ). Great as an aspirator, to ignite floundering coals, when things don't go very well.

And, of course, regular alder, fir or hemlock wood, once the fire gets going.
